Title: Canadian citizen (Ontario) fishing on Erie - New York side
Post by: Berger on June 01, 2018, 10:18:48 PM
Hi There,
I am new to Erie lake, I fish mostly Simcoe, Ontario and Huron.
I would like to try Erie as well.
Aside from buying the New York fishing license should I be aware of any other regulation on US side of the lake? My plan is to cross the border and launch from Buffalo.
I own a small boat, I wear all the time a PFD, no alcohol, rope, flash light (I will fish just during the day).
I also carry a handled VHF station all the time.
Any special requirements on American side different from Canadian water to be aware of?
I would not spend more than half a day fishing there.
Thank you in advance for any usefull information.

I am asking this because I don't want any trouble with the law.

Tight lines, have fun and be safe.

Welcome to the forum

You are good to go, just buy a license

https://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/6091.html

No special regs here different than Ontario

You only have to register your boat in NY if you are fishing more than 90 consecutive days

Bring your paper work, ownership and boaters certificate
