Walleye is open year round on Lake Erie so you are good to go. The problem with early season walleye fishing is hazards like floating ice and debris and the water temps may be too cold for them to be close in shore. Right now the walleye fishing is hot in the Detroit river and south shore Lake Erie Ohio. There are walleye out of Crystal beach but the fishing doesn't get hot there until later in June and July. Perch will show up first out of Crystal, so if you go now you might get into jumbos and the odd walleye.

Launched at Crystal Beach on Saturday and trolled with downrigger towards the lighthouse. Landed this pickerel in 40 feet of water.  Hope picture is attached.
Great launch facility at the park.
Looking forward to more calm mornings on Lake Erie!
