A potentially health-harming, "forever chemical" causing major pollution worries throughout Michigan has state officials now urging no fishing on the Huron River through four counties to Lake Erie.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Friday extended a 'Do Not Eat' fish advisory for the Huron River from North Wixom Road in Oakland County all the way to the mouth of the river at Lake Erie in Wayne County.

The action comes after further findings of surface water and fish contaminated with the compound perflurooctane sulfonate, or PFOS, one of a class of compounds called per- and polyfluroalkyl substances, or PFAS.

That's horrible to hear and kind of scary, especially now that the advisory has been extended to the mouth of the river where it meets Erie'. I can only wonder how that kind of chemical becomes so abundant in a waterbody :puke:. I guess it's kind of like DDT. We used to use a ton, found out it was harmful and stopped, but in many cases, it was too late.
