Lake Erie Steelhead Reports - Feb 2020

Lake Erie tributaries are fishing well when conditions permit, and with this winter's frequent high water events, there are decent numbers of fresh steelhead around. Currently, the smallest streams are pretty well iced over. Eighteenmile, Canadaway and Chautauqua Creeks have some ice in slack areas and are open in swifter areas. Buffalo and Cayuga Creeks are mostly open. Cattaraugus Creek is wide open but running a little high at 718 cubic feet per second. Fly anglers typically target winter steelhead by drifting egg patterns, trout beads, nymphs and woolly buggers. Egg sacs, trout beads and jigs are common offerings by spinning or center pin anglers.
