Lake Erie Fishing Reports - July 2018
« on: July 04, 2018, 11:51:04 AM »
July 4, 2018

Lake Erie:  Limits of walleye were caught around Buoys 1 and 2 off the River Raisin as well as straight off Stony Point and out near the Michigan-Ohio border.  Most were trolling a copper, chartreuse or lime crawler harness 50 to 60 feet back in 24 to 28 feet.  Freshwater drum, white bass, white perch and channel cats were caught throughout the lake when targeting walleye.  Largemouth bass were caught around the Toledo Beach Marina when casting crank bait.  Those fishing the Hot Ponds early to mid-morning caught a good number of channel cats in less than two hours when using shrimp for bait.

Lake Erie

Walleye fishing had picked back up in Brest Bay, off the River Raisin and up near Stony Point in 24 to 26 feet. Some managed to get limit catches when trolling a copper, purple, chartreuse or lime crawler harness with a bottom bouncer 50 to 65 feet back. Those targeting walleye have also caught white bass, white perch, some large channel cats and freshwater drum. A few perch anglers caught 20-30 fish when jigging minnows in 22 to 25 feet off Buoys 1 and 2. Those fishing the Hot Ponds were getting 15-20 channel cats in just a few hours with crawlers or minnows.

Lake Erie:  Limits of walleye were caught in 15 feet off Luna Pier in the evening with stinger spoons.  Limit catches were also taken in Brest Bay and off the River Raisin in 24 to 26 feet when trolling a crawler harness 50 to 65 feet back.  Hot colors were green, chartreuse, lime, copper and purple.  Limits were reported in 18 to 20 feet out near the C-Buoys with crank baits.  Those targeting walleye have also caught white bass, white perch, large channel cats and freshwater drum.  North of the Dumping Grounds, tube jigs, blade baits and spoons were bringing in decent size smallmouth bass.  The Hot Ponds continue to produce lots of channel cats with crawlers or minnows. Those perch fishing in Michigan waters were getting between five to 10 fish.

Lake Erie:  Walleye were caught off Luna Pier in 16 to 18 feet.  Anglers were getting two to four fish on spoons and bandits.  In Brest Bay, a few fish were taken off Buoys 1 & 2 when trolling a crawler harness.  Anglers across the lake were marking perch but catch rates were zero to five fish.  Largemouth bass were caught in the canals at Luna Pier with surface baits.  In the channels out of Sterling and Detroit Beach, anglers caught bluegills, channel cats and a few perch when casting spoons, spinners or crawlers.
