No Fish! Over Fishing! Poachers and Garbage!
« on: August 30, 2018, 10:55:57 AM »
I have been trying to catch a walleye in this river all summer! Nothing! There are no walleye in this river. I give up! That is that! Now the fishing! It sucks! Everywhere I go I see over fishing people are taking everything! small fish big fish no conservation at all on this river. Then the poachers and then the people fishing the dams and then the garbage! Terrible! ok rant over! I might be changing sports cant take this anymore. Am I the only one seeing this destruction?

I have to agree with you on all accounts. We need better enforcement on the river

The Grand is only good fishing in the spring, by this time in the summer it is beaten to crap. LOL Head over to Lake Erie, Port Burwell we are hammering the eyes and jumbos and even white bass. That's where the action is right now.

We had a great season this spring on the Grand for walleyes. Multiple fish every time. It does slow down a fair bit in the summer. We're lucky that the area we fish is less popular and thus there is less abuse of the resources but it still happens and is very frustrating. More enforcement is very necessary, luckily people who have been caught have had the book thrown at them lately.

I agree fishing was good in the spring.

Glad to hear that some of these goons have been charged. More enforcement necessary for sure, I still see blatant infractions along the river every day.

I got into fly fishing at the Grand near Fergus about 25 years ago. I was hooked on the first juvenile salmon I caught. I ended up catching brownies for the next few years. Nothing big, avg size about 10 to 12 inches and loved it. But every season thereafter we caught fewer and fewer until we caught none, time after time. If I lived closer I'd try again but I live in Toronto and although it's a beautiful wide open river, it's just not worth catching nothing. Not sure what the issue is. Over fishing? Poachers? I give up on the Grand. I wonder what it's like closer to its source.
