« on: June 06, 2018, 05:25:45 PM »
June 6, 2018

Detroit River:  Some white bass were being caught with good numbers reported all along the river from the Wyandotte boat launch south to Pointe Mouillee.

St. Clair River: Good walleye fishing was reported with vertical jigging with dark colored plastic tipped with minnows working best. Fish were biting both day and night.

Detroit River:  Is still producing some walleye even though a good number of fish have moved down into Lake Erie.  Most fish were caught down near the mouth.  The white bass action has slowed but anglers were still getting a few.

Detroit River:  Smallmouth bass were caught near the Cross-Dike near Sugar Island and along the seawalls in the Trenton Channel.  The walleye action slowed but a few were taken from the deeper channels in the lower river when trolling a crawler harness or diving baits.  The white bass run is nearly done but a few were caught in Ecorse, Wyandotte and Trenton.

Lake St. Clair:  The better walleye fishing was in the river but a few were caught in the lake.  Most were using a crawler harness with a bottom bouncer.  Perch were found near the channels.  Smallmouth bass were found in eight to 10 feet off the Mile Roads and Anchor Bay.

St. Clair River:  Walleye fishing slowed off Algonac however fish were caught further down the system in the Middle and South Channels.  Jigging one ounce jig heads and trolling crawler harnesses down current towards the lake has led to some impressive walleye.  A few perch were caught when fishing the drop-offs in the lower end of the channels.  For smallmouth bass, try soft plastics in the lower channels.

Lake St. Clair:  The mayfly hatch is ongoing.  The smallmouth action was tough with water temperatures in the 60’s.  The fish get sluggish and the bite is much harder to detect.  Anchor Bay and off the Mile Roads near St. Clair Shores had a slightly better bite than the rest of the lake.  Catfish in front of the Clinton River Spillway were hitting hard with some massive flatheads and channel cats caught.  Perch are starting to show up in Anchor Bay and along the Mile Roads.  The action was not hot but if you are fishing in the area you could catch a couple.

St. Clair River:  Even with the mayfly hatch in full swing, a handful of walleye were caught in all three channels.  If you’re jigging and that’s not working, switch to trolling a crawler harness right past the drop offs in 20 to 40 feet.  Blade and bead color did not seem to make a big difference just as long as boats were trolling at a slower speed.
