Lake St Clair Fishing Reports Apr 2018
« on: April 05, 2018, 09:07:45 AM »
April 5, 2018

Detroit River:  Both the perch and the walleye bite slowed.  Shore anglers were getting a few small perch in the cuts and canals.

Lake St. Clair:  Had almost zero boat effort due to the weather.   Shore anglers were finding some panfish in the marinas and canals.

St. Clair River:  The ice floes look to be over.  Walleye along with the occasional trout or salmon were caught in the lower river as well as the upper river near Port Huron.

Detroit River

Despite the cold water temperatures and windy conditions, anglers were taking a few walleye on jigs tipped with minnows.

Lake St. Clair

Perch were caught along the shoreline. Perch, walleye and Atlantic salmon were caught just outside the channels of the St. Clair River when trolling spoons and bottom bouncers. Perch were caught in the marinas and the Clinton River Spillway.

St. Clair River

Walleye fishing slowed, but those catching fish did so when jigging minnows in Ontario waters.

Detroit River:  Walleye anglers were taking fish in the Trenton Channel and off Wyandotte.  Most were using a jig with a live or artificial minnow.  Some perch were caught in the canals.

Lake St. Clair:  The waters are still stained after the weekend storms.  There is also a lot of debris.  The only good reports were bluegills and sunfish caught in the canals.

St. Clair River:  The water was stained and had floating debris.

Detroit River:  Walleye fishing picked up and some were getting limit catches when vertical jigging with dark colored plastics tipped with minnows.  Those trolling were also bringing in a few fish.  Most were fishing down near the mouth.

Lake St. Clair:  Water clarity has started to improve near the channels but still remains cloudy in the bays.  Overall bite for walleye was slow with most fish still stacked up in the river. Yellow perch, bluegills and rock bass were caught in the canals and marinas.  Large and smallmouth bass are beginning to show up in about 10 feet.  Try small crank baits or tube baits.

St. Clair River:  Had good walleye fishing.  Most were vertical jigging plastics tipped with minnows.  Boats could be seen near the Algonac State Park. Those trolling bombers caught steelhead and coho.  Anglers continue to fish the wall in Port Huron for walleye and salmon.  Shore fishing was in full swing on Harsens Island with anglers targeting the panfish and perch coming into the canals.
