Slow down: High waters prompt wake warnings
« on: May 11, 2018, 08:49:12 PM »
With water levels lapping at the tops of sea walls in the St. Clair River and its various channels, local officials are reminding boaters that they can't run full throttle wherever they choose.

County Commissioner Bill Gratopp said signs will be posted along the river informing boaters of the 200-/600-foot rule.

"If you're under 26 feet and you're throwing a wake, you have to be 200 feet offshore," he said. "If you’re 26 feet and over you have to be 600 feet offshore."

He said the rule is in effect from the mouth of the Black River at Port Huron to where the St. Clair River empties into Lake St. Clair.
