Detroit River

Anglers have caught some panfish in the cuts and canals. A few perch were found around the islands.

Lake St. Clair

Bass action picked up with sizable smallmouth caught in 12 to 15 feet off the Mile Roads and the channel mouths. Musky anglers caught fish near the Clinton River Cut-off in 15 to 20 feet when trolling hard body lures. Walleye fishing was fair for those trolling a crawler harness near the St. Clair Light. Hot colors were gold and green. Anglers also caught a few perch.

St. Clair River

A few perch and walleye were caught at the end of the South Channel.

Detroit River:  Shore anglers are getting bass and catfish on crawlers, shrimp or crayfish.  Boat anglers were using crawlers, shrimp or green worms.  Walleye were found in 13 to 20 feet along the weed beds with a jig and worm or crawler harness.  Yellow perch were in five to nine feet or so along the weed beds around the islands.  Most were using perch rigs.  A couple muskie were taken on large spinners or jigging baits.

Lake St. Clair:  Walleye anglers trolling with crawlers and crankbaits were able to harvest a few fish in deep water near the St. Clair Light, on the back side of Strawberry Island in 20 to 25 feet, in the shipping channel and at the mouth of the Middle Channel.  Yellow perch numbers were increasing out in front of the Selfridge Air Base when drifting crawlers on drop-shot rigs just off the bottom.  Muskie and a couple good size pike were caught while casting and trolling in 15 to 20 feet in Anchor Bay and near the Dumping Grounds.  Bass anglers were targeting fish in deep water near the shipping channel, the three channel mouths of the St. Clair River, off the Mile Roads or in 10 to 12 feet in Anchor Bay.  Try soft plastics like tube baits and fish them slow.

Lake St. Clair:  Walleye and perch were caught by those trolling a crawler harness in the shipping channel.  Muskie anglers did fair in Anchor Bay and 1 ½ - 2 miles off the Clinton River in 15 to 20 feet.  Bass anglers have been moving into the river channels where the water is moving faster and is cooler.  Those launching from Fairhaven found fish in St. John’s Marsh.  Crank baits worked better than top-water lures.  Chartreuse and watermelon were the hot colors.

Lake St. Clair:  Smallmouth bass action picked up, especially for those fishing Anchor Bay and the main shipping channel. Fish were deep in both sections at around the 12 foot mark. Lighter colored soft plastics, especially tubes, brought up some big fish. Yellow perch were starting to show up in Anchor Bay, as well as at the Mile Roads region. Drifting a crawler off the bottom yielded fish. Walleye action has tapered off but was coming back slightly in the shipping channel. Everything from trolling to drifting was working.

Detroit River:   Yellow perch were caught with some taking near limit catches.
Lake St. Clair:  The bite slowed but those trolling a crawler harness along the bottom were taking a few fish but were also getting snagged in the fast growing weed beds.
