Niagara River
The New York Power Authority has announced that the ice boom removal will not occur until after April 1st, at a date yet to be determined. Once removal starts, floating ice will limit fishing in the river until the ice has moved through.

Trout fishing on the lower river has been slower, likely due to very clear waters. With a little added water color, the fishing could really take off again. Steelhead are available in all of the drifts, along with some brown trout and lake trout mixed in. Controlled drifting with three-way rigs with emerald shiners, golden shiners and egg sacs is a productive technique. Shore anglers can target steelhead at the State Parks. The NYPA fishing platform will open April 1st, weather permitting.
