Niagara River Fishing Report - Nov 2020

The month of November is traditionally a top time to target muskellunge in the upper Niagara River. Target musky by casting large stickbaits or by drifting and jigging large (8"-10") tube jigs. Trolling around the outer Buffalo Harbor and breakwall gaps can produce a musky catch as well.

Lower river waters were quite stained at mid-week, but are settling back into fishable shape. Anglers have reported good action for a mix of lake trout, brown trout and steelhead. Lake trout season is closed, so incidentally caught lakers must be promptly released. Look for more brown trout and steelhead to show in the coming weeks. The Devils Hole and Artpark drifts are good bets for boaters, but trout often show in mid-river drifts as well. Bottom bouncing with a three-way rig and egg sacs, live shiners or Kwikfish-style lures work well. The NYPA fishing platform, Artpark, Devils Hole and Whirlpool State Parks are good spots for shore anglers. Egg sacs, trout beads, egg pattern flies, shiners and jigs fished under a float, or casted spoons and spinners are good trout offerings. Smallmouth bass are available in the mid to lower drifts.
