You might get some up in the headwater areas, but most public access spots are fished out. The best trout fishing is on private land. Sorry.
YES that spot gets crowded but all the public access spots with good fishing are crowded like that since you are close to the city. Agreed drive around and try to find a quieter spot, even below the dams at the nearest bend away from the crowd all packed in right at the dam walls. You are not suppose to fish right at the dams anyways but no one follows the rules these days 17

I took them to Wilkes Dam last summer and they did catch the off sunfish and one bass. It was a fun time, but one was reading about the Grand and asked about trout. We found the dam was very crowded and adults weren't giving kids space to have fun. We will drive along it to find another spot which is more private. Thx 18

Lake St. Clair / Lake St Clair & Detroit River - Fishing Report May 2023« Last post by LEO on May 31, 2023, 11:53:43 AM »May 31, 2023
Detroit River: Walleye anglers were having a fair bit of luck trolling with crawler harnesses and bandits in 7 to 10 feet of water near L anse Creuse Bay and near the Salt River. Other walleye anglers did very well near Gross Point in 6 to 9 feet of water. Smallmouth bass anglers did well near Metro Beach and near the Veterans Memorial Park in shallow water as well (6 to 9 feet) and had the best luck casting with soft plastics. Chartreuse and orange were hot colors this week. There was also quite a bit of bass action between Gross Point and the mouth of the river. Anglers fishing that location were starting to catch white bass and quite a few caught northern pike. Anglers also hooked a few musky near the Clinton River Cutoff location. Michigan DNR |
